Clipper has been replaced by Clyppan
Back in 2003 when I bought my first Mac—a shiny new iBook—I got an itch. Before switching I had become accustomed to a brilliant little KDE app called Klipper. All Klipper did was to keep a history of stuff you’d copied. Nothing more, nothing less.
I missed Klipper…bad. I looked around for similar application for the mac, but didn’t find any that felt as simple as Klipper. I just wanted a simple that would stay in the background and didn’t consume any resources.
One day the the itch got too strong. The result of my scratching is Clipper—the simplest clipboard history manager I could write.
As you can see—all it does is sit on your menu bar and saves stuff you copy to the clipboard.
Update: Unsurprisingly, I’m not the only one with a bad imagination when it comes to naming things. David pointed out in the comments that a utility called Clipper already exists. If you have a suggestion for a more imaginative name feel free to post a comment.

Clipper has been replaced by Clyppan, essentially Clipper version 2.0

You evidently missed KoolClip. It just slightly more than what you have done but tracks both text and graphics. It generally works seamlessly with most programs but with large amount of text and graphics from MS Office sometimes does not transfer all the info correctly. I have used it for years and have been quite happy with it. I used to use PTH Pasteboard till they crippled it unless you paid for it. Nevertheless congratulations on your accomplishment and hopefully the programming skills you obtained through this endeavor will serve you well in the future.

I like it, but what can i do with the clips that are stored. Apparently, i can’t paste them into docs. So i’m not sure what use it serves. Or am i doing something wrong?

You just select the entry for the Clipper menu then it should put that entry on your clipboard for you to paste.

I’ve been using Jumpcut for a while with no problems. Very light, but doesn’t do images.

magosilvan:
Kick me an email with more details about what version of mac os x you use and what platform (Intel/PPC) and I’ll look in to it. There’s an email link at the bottom of the page.
Thanks!

This look great, but there is already Jumpcut and ClipMenu . But it’s cool that you made your own implementation :) .

Here’s a link to a truly IDENTICAL Mac utility, with the IDENTICAL name. Except that one was Clipper 1.1 back in 2005. Huh???

I developed an application almost identical to this a whiles back. This would be the one David is referring too. Great minds think alike huh?

I like your app best, it’s the simplest.

Nice little app. Perhaps a Clear all option can be added in the future.
Thanks.

Feature request: For programming-oriented demos, I want a text-only clip manager that can load a set of commands from a file (at least optionally), and upon use of a hot key, drop one of these at a time into the terminal, then advance to the next one in the set. Can this be done with your app?

The app can not do this currently, however your feature request has been noted :)

feature request: could this program also log clipboard items by appending (or prepending) them to a plain text file? If you really wanted to, you could also have it log time and date along with clipped items. This would allow me to use Clipper as a log of and assistant to my train of thought.

I’m a writer / designer who is pretty good at naming things. If I come up with the name will you give me a credit for branding it?
here’s my address in reverse: moc.tnanoser@relyt

Clear all option is essential
